I saw a documentary whose name escapes me that dealt with this subject. It was pretty interesting, and made me think, although conspiracy theories tend to arise around any devestating event (Princess Diana's death and the 911 attacks to name a few). Some sociologists think this happens to give some form of meaning and closure to an otherwise senseless and tragic event.
