1995 - British rock royals Pink Floyd release their highly acclaimed live album P*U*L*S*E. It came in a CD pack with a blinking red LED light on the case that flashed to the heartbeat heard at the start of their iconic album, Dark Side Of The Moon, which is played in its entirely on P*U*L*S*E.

1967 - Oasis lead guitarist and principal songwriter Noel Gallagher (the younger one) is compressed inside his mother's womb so as to be born. We are still paying for it 42 years later.

1997 - Legendary American whinger and 90s cultural icon Jeff Buckley drowns in the Mississippi river.

1967 - Perenially underrated and perpetually bald drummer Phil Selway (pictured below) is born, he would go on to apply his craft for 90s icons Radiohead.

1975 - American folk pop star Jewel is born in Alaska of all places.

1978 - Future Blink 182 drummer Scott Raynor is born, showing that despite Phil Selway's birth, May 23 is not exclusively positive.

1992 - In what must surely be its most ambitious and controversial move ever, The World Health Organisation removes HOMOSEXUALITY from its list of mental illnesses. Few things on this blog could more accurately reflect how much we sometimes underestimate the cultural distance between the 90s and now, amongst all the similarities.

1996 - American multi-instrumental musician, composer and producer Kevin Gilbert dies of suspected autoerotic asphyxiation, reportedly on the verge of joining rock legends Genesis replacing Phil Collins as frontman.

1991 - The world's largest and heaviest Burrito, weighing in at 510.745kg (1,126 pounds) is made, one must presume at least 200kg of that fell on the floor while being eaten.

1998 - The final episode of Seinfeld airs in the United States and is watched by 76 million viewers, making it the third most watched series finale of all time behind M*A*S*H and Cheers.
